VICTORY CHAPEL IS COMING TO CLAY COUNTY - JANUARY 2027 SERVICE #1

Find Jesus

HOW DO IFOLLOW JESUS?

You start following Jesus the way He asked people to from day one: "Repent and believe the good news" (Mark 1:15). Turn from running your own life, trust Him with it, and start walking with Him daily. It's a decision that begins in a moment - and a relationship that grows for a lifetime. No religious performance required.

It starts with a response

Following Jesus begins with two simple moves: repent (turn toward God) and believe (trust Jesus). That's the doorway - everything else is walking through it.

"Repent" sounds like a scary church word, but it just means an honest U-turn: "God, I've been running this my way. I want Your way now." It isn't groveling - it's coming home.

"Believe" means more than agreeing Jesus existed. It means trusting Him - like sitting in a chair, you put your full weight on Him. You believe He died for your sins, rose again, and can actually lead your life better than you can.

You can pray this right now

There's no magic formula, but there is a real moment of surrender. Something like this, in your own words, is all it takes.

"Jesus, I believe You are who You said You are. I've sinned and I need You. Thank You for dying for me and rising again. I turn from my way and I give You my life. Lead me from here. Amen."

If you prayed that and meant it, something real just happened. Romans 10:13 promises that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Not might be. Will be.

And tell someone. Faith grows when it's spoken. If you don't have anyone to tell, tell us - we would genuinely celebrate with you.

"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:9

It's a relationship, not a rulebook

Following Jesus isn't about performing for God - it's about walking with Him. Daily conversation, daily trust, daily steps.

Religion says "do, and maybe you'll be accepted." Jesus says "you're accepted - now let's walk." Obedience flows out of love, not fear. You'll stumble; He isn't counting your stumbles, He's holding your hand.

Talk to Him throughout the day. Read a little of the Gospels and get to know His voice. Let Him into the ordinary stuff - work, parenting, worries. That's what following looks like on a Tuesday.

What actually changes?

Everything that matters. Your standing with God, your direction, your power over old patterns - and slowly, beautifully, you.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says anyone in Christ is a new creation - the old has gone, the new has come. Some things change instantly (forgiveness, peace, belonging to God). Other things change over time (habits, wounds, character). Both are normal.

Don't judge your walk by someone else's highlight reel. God finishes what He starts (Philippians 1:6) - and He just started something in you.

Don't follow alone

Jesus never sent anyone out solo. Faith is personal, but it was never meant to be private - you need people, and people need you.

Find a church family that teaches the Bible and loves people. If you're near Clay County, we'd love to be that for you - Victory Chapel Clay launches January 2027, and a brand-new church is the easiest one to walk into, because everyone is new.

Your very next step after deciding to follow Jesus is baptism - going public with your faith. We've written a simple guide to what baptism is and why it matters.
